What FIFA Decided
The decision came from the FIFA Council’s Bureau, a smaller body that takes decisions between full Council meetings. The full Council had already fixed the 2028 dates on 17 December 2025.
Sarai Bareman, FIFA’s Chief Women’s Football Officer, called the United States “the standout option” after a detailed assessment. She cited its recent record staging FIFA tournaments, its infrastructure and interest in women’s football.
The United States hosted the men’s Club World Cup in 2025 and co-hosted this year’s men’s World Cup, Sportbuzz reports. FIFA’s release names no host cities, stadiums or ticket plans.
The 19 Clubs and the Seven Places Filled
UEFA, Europe’s football body, gets six places in the Women’s Club World Cup. The Asian, African, North and Central American and South American confederations get three each, and Oceania gets one.
The seven qualified clubs are Arsenal (England), Club América Femenil (Mexico), FC Barcelona Femení (Spain) and Gotham FC (United States). The others are Naegohyang (North Korea), Wuhan Jiangda (China) and Corinthians (Brazil).
Places depend on results in each confederation’s top club competition over seasons ending in 2024 to 2027. FIFA will build a club ranking with the confederations, while existing UEFA and Concacaf systems apply to those two.
FIFA says it will review the access rules after the 2028 edition. The review could change how later tournaments fill their places.
Why Brazil Cares About the Women’s Club World Cup
Corinthians won the Libertadores Femenina, South America’s top women’s club competition, in 2024 and 2025, Agência Brasil reports. Those titles earned the first of South America’s three places.
The other two places depend on 2026 and 2027 results and on a ranking FIFA has not yet built. Agência Brasil reports that a new Corinthians title would send further places through that ranking.
The 2026 Libertadores Femenina is under way in Quito, Ecuador, from 15 to 31 October, Teleamazonas reports. Corinthians, Palmeiras and debutant Cruzeiro all won their first two group games and reached the quarter-finals, Flashscore Brasil reports.
Palmeiras, from São Paulo, won the competition in 2022, and Cruzeiro is from Belo Horizonte. The champion goes straight into a FIFA semi-final in Miami against Barcelona.
Miami Hosts the Warm-Up in January 2027
FIFA’s Women’s Champions Cup brings together six continental champions in the years between Club World Cups. Its final phase now runs from 26 to 31 January 2027, with the semi-finals at Nu Stadium in Miami.
Club América plays its semi-final on Tuesday, 26 January 2027 against a winner from Asia, Africa or Oceania. Barcelona meets the Libertadores Femenina champion on Wednesday, 27 January 2027.
The bronze final and the final follow as a double-header on Sunday, 31 January 2027. FIFA has yet to confirm kick-off times for the final phase.
What Else FIFA Decided
For the 2027 Women’s World Cup in Brazil, FIFA raised preparation money to US$2.5 million per participating national association. That matches the 2026 men’s World Cup, and players get the same service levels as the men did.
Any surplus from the 2027 tournament goes to the associations, with a set amount ring-fenced for players. The full Council will discuss details in December 2026.
FIFA also named Qatar host of the last three FIFA Intercontinental Cup matches on 9, 12 and 16 December 2026. The Copa Libertadores champion, who could be Brazilian, plays Toluca of Mexico on 9 December, Agência Brasil reports.
What It Means for US Readers
The United States gets two FIFA women’s club events in two Januaries, Miami in 2027 and the Club World Cup in 2028. Gotham FC is the only US club qualified so far.
Travellers should wait for FIFA’s host-city and ticket announcements before booking. FIFA’s release gives no ticket dates, prices or stadium list.

What Is Not Known
FIFA has not named the host cities, stadiums, ticket dates or prize money for the 2028 tournament. Its release also gives no match schedule or group draw date.
The ranking that will fill South America’s other two places is not yet public. Group results come from one outlet, Flashscore Brasil, and the sources give no final group-round results in Ecuador.
What Comes Next
The Libertadores Femenina continues in Quito until 31 October, and its champion earns the Miami semi-final place against Barcelona. The FIFA Council meets again in December 2026.
This does not mean any US city has been chosen for 2028. It means only that the country has been named host.
