Offensive coordinator Adam Stenavich said Tuesday that the Green Bay Packers will not change their offensive line “just to change,” with guard Kevin Zeitler closer to game shape and left guard Aaron Banks coming off what Stenavich called a good week of practice.
Zeitler dressed for Sunday’s 23-13 win over the Dallas Cowboys so the Packers could use him if needed, Stenavich said. Banks has been in and out of the lineup.
The Packers (4-2) play the Detroit Lions on Sunday, whose front includes D.J. Wonnum (five sacks) and Aidan Hutchinson (four).
Kevin Zeitler dressed against Dallas
Green Bay signed Zeitler on Sept. 30. The 36-year-old, a 15th-year player out of Wisconsin and a Waukesha native, has appeared in 214 regular-season games with 213 starts and made the Pro Bowl in 2023. He played for Detroit in 2024.
Zeitler was the third former first-round offensive lineman the Packers added within days, joining Laken Tomlinson and Mekhi Becton.
“Yeah, I think he looked better last week,” Stenavich said. “Obviously, he dressed for the game, so we were prepared to put him in if we needed him. So I think every week we’re just going to keep evaluating kind of what’s going on there.”
The line has “played better the last few weeks,” Stenavich said, and that factors into any change.
“So again, just like last week, we’re not going to change just to change, but we want to put the best five guys out there that we think give us the best chance to win,” Stenavich said. “So we’re just going to keep evaluating it as the week goes on. We’re going to meet with the medical staff here in a little bit and just kind of get the rundown on how everyone’s doing.”
One option is working Zeitler in for a series at a time.
“Yeah, there certainly could be, and that, yeah, we’ve discussed that,” Stenavich said. “So again, we’ll kind of see how it unfolds.”
Aaron Banks has been “a roller coaster,” Adam Stenavich says
“With him, it’s kind of been a roller coaster of, you know, he’s almost back and then he’s not,” Stenavich said. “And this last week, he looked really good. So, again, we’ll see kind of how this week goes. We’d love to have him back out there.”
“But we just want to make sure he’s good to go and we’re not going to be, you know, up and down with all this stuff,” Stenavich continued. “We just want to make sure he’s getting better so that we can get him out there playing at a high level.”
Green Bay entered Week 6 averaging 60.4 rushing yards per game, the fewest in the NFL.
Stenavich said he would meet with the medical staff later Tuesday for an update on the line’s health.
