Walk-in closets are useful, but their location can affect how easily they fit into a morning routine. A closet separated from the ensuite can mean moving back through the bedroom after getting ready, potentially disturbing a partner who is still sleeping.

The Heath by Hopewell Residential addresses this challenge. Measuring 1,686 square feet, this laned single-family model is currently displayed as a show home in Hotchkiss. The southeast Calgary community has 20.6 hectares of park space and pathways, with a central wetland and boardwalk.
In the Heath, the primary bedroom’s ensuite provides direct access to a walk-in closet, allowing morning and nighttime routines to move between the two spaces without passing through the bedroom.
The L-shaped walk-in closet is large enough to function as a dressing room and has the capacity for two well-sized wardrobes.
The ensuite also supports an efficient morning routine with a vanity featuring two sinks beneath a full-width mirror. This lets a couple go through the steps to start their day at the same time. A large shower with tile and a glass door is another ensuite feature.
The 12-foot by 10-foot-eight-inch primary bedroom is positioned along the rear wall of the second floor, next to the laundry room, which has a front-load washer and dryer.
A central bonus room separates the primary bedroom from two secondary bedrooms along the front of the top floor. The bedrooms are equal in size, giving children the same amount of space and reducing potential arguments over who gets the larger sleep space.

In the show home, two more bedrooms are located at opposite ends of the developed basement. The space is demonstrated as a legal suite with a recreation area and kitchen.

The cooking space is displayed with gray cabinets that follow a curved corner counter. It includes stainless steel appliances such a fridge and over-the-range microwave.
This separate living space provides an option for homeowners to offset mortgage payments with rental income. A side entrance provides direct access to the basement stairs, allowing tenants to enter their living space without crossing the main level.
On the main level, the kitchen features a large island with seating for at least four people. Its layout keeps everything within arm’s reach and generous counter space supports meal preparation. It features stainless steel appliances, including a fridge with french doors and over-the-range microwave.
The kitchen connects to the dining area and rear-facing great room through an open-concept design. The great room includes tall windows that pull in a large volume of natural light.
Rather than the half-bathroom being flush with the rest of the main level, in this house it is one step up, along the stairs to the second level.
The raised floor clearly separates the bathroom from the main living area, blocking the direct line of sight inside and creating a greater sense of privacy.
Just off the kitchen is a flex room closed off by french doors. While it can serve several purposes, including giving young children a place for toys and books, it also works well as a home office.
