A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Ogun State, Topa Olusegun Peter has disowned reports listing him as a governorship aspirant for the 2027 election, saying he never bought a nomination form nor authorised anyone to act on his behalf.
Peter, who is the Baale of Olorunsogo, Ilara in Imeko-Afon Local Government Area, raised the alarm at a press briefing in Abeokuta on Saturday, alleging that his name was fraudulently used.
He accused the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Imeko-Afon Local Government, Ramoni Adebolu, and other APC chieftains of being behind the move after he allegedly turned down a political offer from them.
According to him, Adebolu and others invited him to a meeting in Ilara, telling him they had a position to offer him under the PDP without giving details.
"I told them there and then that I was not interested because such could only come from my party, the PDP," Peter said.
He expressed shock to later see his name published in newspapers as a PDP governorship aspirant.
Peter said when he confronted Adebolu over the publications, the APC chairman told him to remain calm and allegedly promised him money, a car and a major appointment after the emergence of Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, as APC governorship candidate.
He insisted he collected no money from anyone.
"I wish to emphasise that I never purchased a governorship nomination form, signed any document expressing intention to contest, or authorised anyone to act on my behalf," he said.
The traditional chief also disowned a petition purportedly written to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, by one Anderson Asemota of Neplus Ultra Attorneys, demanding that INEC publish his name as an aspirant within 48 hours.
"I have never met or spoken with the lawyer, Anderson Asemota. I did not authorise him to write any petition on my behalf," Peter stated.
He called on INEC to disregard any document submitted in his name and to investigate how his identity was used without his consent.
Peter further raised alarm over his safety and that of his family, urging security agencies to investigate the matter and protect them.
"I am appealing to Nigerians, security agencies and well-meaning individuals to come to my aid and ensure the safety of my life and family," he said.
Reaffirming his loyalty to the PDP, Peter said he had been a member since 1998 and never defected, adding that Hon. Ladi Adebutu emerged as the sole candidate at the PDP governorship primary held on May 24, 2026, which he supervised in his ward.
He urged INEC and the public to disregard any document bearing his name as a governorship aspirant.
