Pet show draws large crowds at J.K. Grounds

The Dasara Pet Show drew a large crowd, particularly youth and women, at J.K. Grounds in Mysuru on Sunday, with hundreds of dogs and cats of different breeds capturing the attention of visitors.

Organised by the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services, the event featured around 702 dogs and 52 cats owned by pet lovers from Mysuru and neighbouring districts, including Mandya, Chamarajanagar, Kodagu and Hassan.

The organisers listed 55 breeds of dogs, with awards presented in different categories. Five dogs were shortlisted for the Best in Show championship.

German Shepherds, Lhasa Apsos, Beagles, Shih Tzus, Dobermans, Poodles, Great Danes, Rajapalayams and Pugs were among the breeds on display in designated enclosures. Dogs belonging to non-recognised breeds were also allowed to participate. The show witnessed a 20% increase in participation compared to last year.

Pet lovers, particularly youngsters, were seen handling two or three dogs at a time, while several visitors clicked photographs at the event’s photo booth.

Sushmitha, a pet lover from Mysuru who has seven dogs at home, said she enjoyed spending time with dogs, which are known for their loyalty. Chethan, a high school student from K.G. Koppal, also brought his pet to the show.

Information on pet care, dog rearing and rabies prevention was displayed on LED screens to create public awareness.
