The Minnesota Vikings signed Jauan Jennings to bolster their wide receiver depth behind Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison. Both receivers have missed time the past three games, providing an opportunity for Jennings to play significant snaps.
Unfortunately, that hasn't translated into production. Jennings, who missed Minnesota's Week 2 game in Chicago, has only caught two passes for 9 yards in four games. On Tuesday, Darren "Doogie" Wolfson reported to Skor North that Jennings got into Kevin O'Connell's "vicinity" following Myles Price's fumble that was returned 87 yards for a New Orleans Saints touchdown.
That came after two potential scoring opportunities for Jennings, who was caught on camera punching the Superdome turf after the Saints' touchdown. Ian Rapoport appeared on The Pat McAfee Show on Tuesday and reported that Jennings could be traded elsewhere.
"I would say a name that I've been wondering about is Jauan Jennings," Rapoport said. "So he's with the Minnesota Vikings, had like two catches. Obviously came over from the 49ers. I expect his name to heat up a little bit over the next, you know, probably couple days and weeks. And obviously the 49ers lost Deebo [Saumuel] for a couple of weeks too. So they make sense."
That would be a tough trade for the Vikings to execute. Even if they were ready to move on from Jennings, would they really want to trade him to the NFC's only other unbeaten team? Minnesota and San Francisco also face off in Mexico City on November 22. Trading Jennings could mean letting him share company secrets ahead of a game that could have major playoff implications.
The Vikings could be getting several of their best offensive players back after this week's bye. They may never see what a fully healthy offense could look like with Jennings if they determine he won't fit in the system.
