A 65-year-old man was sent to prison Monday over a knife attack on two sisters in Khénifra that left one dead and the other seriously injured.
The suspect was placed in Beni Mellal’s local prison by the prosecutor general at the Beni Mellal Court of Appeal.
One of the victims, 47, died Oct. 8 at a clinic in Fez after weeks of treatment for her injuries. Her sister’s health has since stabilized, according to available information.
The attack followed a dispute between the sisters and the suspect, who was renting a house in Khénifra owned by their family. The argument escalated into a knife assault.
The case drew criticism from local residents and human rights groups, particularly after the suspect remained at Khénifra’s provincial hospital following his arrest, reportedly because of an illness.
The Khénifra branch of the Moroccan Association for Human Rights called for an impartial investigation, equal application of the law, protection for the surviving sister and her family, and accountability for the attack.
