ATHENS, October 2026 — The Giorgos Mazonakis memorial service takes place on Sunday 18 October at the Third Cemetery of Nikaia, as the judicial investigation into the circumstances of the singer’s death continues, according to Mononews.
The memorial brings Nikaia together once more to remember one of Greece’s best-loved popular singers. The time of the service has not been announced publicly.
Mazonakis died on 9 September at the age of 54. He was born and raised in Nikaia, where thousands gathered for his funeral on 14 September at the Church of the Holy Trinity.
Toxicology results in the investigation
The toxicology results are at the centre of the investigation, according to Mononews. Tests found a total of eight substances in the singer’s blood, including propofol, midazolam and flumazenil, the report says.
Propofol is used in anaesthesia and sedation. Midazolam is a benzodiazepine with a sedative effect, while flumazenil is given to reverse the effect of benzodiazepines, Mononews reports.
These substances were also reportedly mentioned in witness statements to the investigating magistrate, according to the report. A quantitative analysis, which will show their concentrations in the blood, is considered key to assessing the findings.
An expert appointed by the family is also taking part in the process, the report says, citing the same information.
Third search at the clinic
On Thursday, Security Police officers carried out a third search at the clinic on Karpathou Street, according to Mononews. They seized two vials of pharmaceutical substances and two leaflets, the report says.
Two prosecutors and the lawyers of the two doctors accused in the case attended the search. The doctors’ lawyers reportedly argue that the new search was brought forward because the property owner has ended the lease and wants the premises back.
Investigating authorities are examining the laboratory results together with witness statements and the claims of those involved, in order to establish how the substances were administered, according to the report.
The toxicology findings alone are not enough to reach a definitive conclusion about the singer’s death, Mononews reports. The investigation remains under way, and authorities are awaiting the completion of the laboratory analyses.
His mother, Klio Mazonaki, spoke about her grief in a television interview on Friday 16 October.
