The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested a former Office of the Auditor-General employee accused of using a forged Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) certificate to secure employment and fraudulently acquire Ksh5.8 million in public funds.
The suspect was arrested at his residence in Kibera on Thursday, October 22, before being arraigned at the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court, where he was charged with forgery, presenting a forged certificate, and fraudulent acquisition of public property.
EACC investigations established that the former employee allegedly presented a falsified KCSE certificate purportedly issued by the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC), indicating that he had sat his examinations at Orero Secondary School.
The commission alleged that the certificate was used to secure employment at the Office of the Auditor-General, resulting in the alleged fraudulent acquisition of over Ksh5.8 million in public funds.

“He presented the falsified certificate to secure employment at the OAG, resulting in the fraudulent acquisition of public property valued at Ksh5,876,203.89,” the commission said.
Following the investigations, EACC forwarded the inquiry file to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), who approved charges against the suspect over the alleged use of the forged academic document.
The court released the accused on a cash bail of Ksh300,000 or an alternative bond of Ksh800,000, with a surety of a similar amount, and scheduled the matter for mention on November 5 this year, for directions.
The arrest comes as EACC intensifies investigations into cases involving falsified academic credentials allegedly used to obtain public service jobs and salaries, with several former public employees facing prosecution over similar claims.
Earlier in October, a former Kenya Airports Authority employee was charged after allegedly using a forged Bachelor of Commerce certificate to secure an appointment as an acting Fire Supervisor at the state agency.
According to the allegations, the former employee presented a certificate purportedly issued by Mount Kenya University to an airport manager for consideration for the acting position at Lokichogio Airport in Turkana County.
In a separate case, EACC also charged a former Kiambu County Assembly employee accused of using a forged KCSE certificate to secure employment and fraudulently acquire Ksh6,283,631.30 in salaries between August 2016 and May 2025.
The prosecution alleged that the certificate was presented to the county assembly in September 2016 as genuine and was relied upon when the former employee was hired.
