New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone recently spoke with reporters in an end-of-season press conference. Boone faced a number of challenging questions given the fact that the Yankees have not won the World Series since 2009. The Yankees’ decision to bring Boone back for 2027 has led to strong reactions from a fanbase that is starving for its next championship.
Boone maintained an optimistic outlook on the future. He believes he can guide New York to its 28th World Series victory. The way he handled the difficult press conference led to a response from former Yankee Anthony Rizzo, via Ross and Rizzo Unfiltered.
“I thought Boone did an amazing job at taking all the questions, taking all the heat,” Rizzo said. “He’s asked about his legacy if he doesn’t win, and the success he’s had but losing to winning teams. And it’s like, look, ‘We haven’t won, and until we do we’re gonna work tirelessly to do that.’ They use their resources, right… They’re a stand-up organization, and I know they’re putting everything in to get better.

“It’s just winning, right? Winning is hard.”
Rizzo spent the last few years of his big league career in New York, playing with the Yankees from 2021-2024. He played for Boone during that time. Rizzo knows the kind of manager that Boone is, and he seems to have respect for him.
Boone has done a respectable job overall. He’s consistently led the Yankees to winning regular seasons. The postseason has given Boone’s teams trouble, however.
The only way to silence the critics and doubters will be to win the World Series.
