The world is undergoing development and transformation alongside emerging technologies, and so it is necessary to provide the younger generation with comprehensive and well-rounded training and education in all aspects so that they can keep pace with these changes, said Vice-President Nan Ni Ni Aye.
The Vice-President, who is also chairperson of the Myanmar Youth Affairs Central Committee, made remarks at the committee meeting held in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday.
She said it is also necessary to work together to foster young people’s spirit of inquiry, creativity, and ability to think critically, and to nurture their patriotism and love for their country and nation.
She also stressed the need to guide and educate young people to understand, respect and abide by the laws promulgated by the State; develop good character and discipline; uphold ethical and moral standards; maintain a proper balance between personal and collective interests; and fulfil their social responsibilities.
She continued that youth development involves not only youth-related activities, including arts and sports, but also the establishment of youth centres, which play a fundamental role in providing opportunities for young people to interact with, communicate with and learn from one another. Therefore, she urged efforts to establish and operate youth centres in the respective regions and states. She also called for existing youth centres in some regions and states to move beyond routine activities and systematically provide training courses and vocational skills that directly benefit young people and can be applied in the workplace, ensuring that these facilities are used effectively and productively.
She added that today’s young people would be responsible for continuing to preserve, protect and safeguard the nation in the future in accordance with the Our Three Main National Causes. Therefore, youth development must be promoted and strengthened. It is necessary to continuously train and nurture young people, who represent the nation’s future, so that they can become valuable human resources with high capabilities and a mature, capable workforce. She urged the participants at the meeting to discuss, review and recommend effective approaches for implementing youth development programmes in their respective sectors to systematically nurture the younger generation of the country.
Union Minister for Youth Affairs Dr Maung Thin, who is also vice-chair of the committee, Deputy Minister U Sitt Naing, who is secretary of the committee, and other participants reported on the formation of the central committee, working committee, talks and dialogues on awareness for youths, vocational training, ongoing work plans and other youth development measures. — MNA/KTZH
