Kano-based fashion entrepreneur Abdulkadir Basri has embarked on a 120-hour non-stop sewing marathon, seeking to set a new Guinness World Record while producing school uniforms for underprivileged children.
The Chief Executive Officer of Basri Apparels and Textiles Nigeria Limited began the challenge on Wednesday, October 7, at the sports complex of Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria in Kano.
The attempt is scheduled to end on Monday night, October 12, 2026.
Basri announced the initiative, tagged Sew for the Nation, in a video shared on his social media accounts on September 27, explaining that the project combines his ambition to break a world record with efforts to support access to education for vulnerable pupils.
“My name is Abdulkadir Hassan Al Basri, I’m the CEO of Basri Apparels and Textiles Nigeria Limited. I am here to announce Sew for the Nation, a Guinness World Record attempt,” he said.

He said the uniforms produced during the marathon would be donated to indigent pupils attending public schools.
“I’ll be sewing school uniforms to support the less privileged pupils at public schools,” Basri stated.
The fashion entrepreneur said the challenge was also intended to encourage young Nigerians to pursue their ambitions and recognise the importance of vocational skills.
“This is more than a record; this is for every dreamer, every artisan and every young Nigerian with a vision,” he said.
Basri is seeking to surpass the existing record of 106 hours, 55 minutes and 20 seconds, set by Nigerian tailor Oluwaseun Kuforiji in January 2025.
The attempt will be subject to verification by Guinness World Records in line with its established guidelines before any official recognition is granted.
