The LEGO Group has unveiled the trailer for ‘LEGO Friends: Heartlake The Musical’, the first-ever live-action adaptation of the popular LEGO Friends universe, ahead of its full premiere on 16 October.
The 50-minute musical special follows Daisy, played by Jada Langley, as she navigates a major life change after moving to Heartlake City. Through music, friendship and self-discovery, the story explores themes of belonging, creativity and self-expression.
Executive produced by filmmaker Kenny Ortega, alongside Jill Wilfert of LEGO Entertainment and Michael McKenna and Hanah Draper of Final Pixel, the production features four original songs and choreography from director Paul Becker. Using virtual production technology developed by Final Pixel, the special brings the colourful world of Heartlake City from brick form to live-action for the first time.
Following its debut on the LEGO Group’s YouTube channel, the musical will also be available through a range of broadcast and streaming partners, including Netflix, Peacock, Tubi, RTL and AMC Networks in selected markets.
Since launching in 2012, LEGO Friends has expanded beyond toys into animated content, books, digital experiences and live events. The new musical represents the latest step in the brand's broader storytelling strategy.
Speaking about the project, executive producer Kenny Ortega said: "As a lifelong believer in the power of music and storytelling, this project has been a joy to be part of. Together with my long-time creative partner Paul Becker, and the talented innovators at Final Pixel, we've built a world that feels full of wonder, heart and possibility. What I love most is that beneath all the spectacle, Heartlake The Musical is a story about finding your people, embracing who you are and discovering that you can achieve incredible things when you support one another. Which is true to the LEGO Friends universe!"
Jill Wilfert, SVP, Global Entertainment Partners & Content at the LEGO Group, added: "Creating our first-live-action musical is a major milestone for LEGO Friends and an exciting evolution of the storytelling experiences we can bring to our fans. At its heart, Heartlake The Musical celebrates the power of imagination. Alongside the original music and spectacular performances, it brings the creativity inherent in the LEGO brand to life, showing girls that they can build far more than models, they can build stories, friendships, possibilities and positive change."
To coincide with the launch, LEGO is also bringing one of the musical’s locations into the real world through a pop-up Unicorn Café experience in London.
Running from 29 to 31 October at Potters Field Park, the attraction is inspired by the LEGO Friends Unicorn Café set and a key setting from the musical. Visitors will be able to take part in building challenges, view exclusive screenings of Heartlake The Musical, create take-home LEGO builds and explore interactive spaces themed around Heartlake City.
The activation is part of a wider programme of events celebrating the musical across multiple territories, including Canada, the Czech Republic, Poland, Mexico, the UK, the Netherlands, Türkiye and the US.
