Losing in the final seconds to bitter rival Oklahoma in the Red River Rivalry on Saturday was enough of a gut punch for the Texas Longhorns.
But salt was poured into the wound less than 24 hours later when the Longhorns learned they’d lost a five-star recruit, who flipped to an SEC rival shortly after the loss to the Sooners.
Wide receiver Easton Royal, who had been committed to Texas since November, flipped his commitment to Florida on Sunday. The Gators went after Royal hard, and they’d been trending for days to finally get the five-star wideout to jump ship.
"It's just way more energy in the air, completely different philosophy, energy in the building, their offense is completely different," Royal told 247Sports. "It's a lot of new things that they have to offer that makes this staff so great.”
Though Florida has dropped two games in a row after besting Ole Miss in one of the biggest games of the college football season, first-year head coach Jon Sumrall is making his mark on the recruiting trail while the Gators find their footing on the field.

...
Sumrall’s staff, particularly outside wide receivers coach Marcus Davis, is a big reason why Royal flipped his commitment.
“The biggest and the best thing about it, there's no jealousy in the room," Royal continued. "Coach [Marcus] Davis says it all the time, if they're in the meeting room, because he's the head receiver coach, if they're in the meeting room and another receiver coach can explain it or teach it a better way, he's always going to be the first one to be like, 'Okay, well, he's going to let them teach it to help that player get developed and help the success of the team.'"
Royal is the second five-star commit in Florida’s 2027 class, joining offensive tackle Maxwell Hiller.
The Gators currently have the No. 11 overall class, which boasts commitments from four-star WRs Elias Pearl and Tramond Collins, four-star quarterback Davin Davidson, four-star running back Andrew Beard II, and four-star cornerbacks Raheem Floyd and Amare Nugent, among others.
