INCHEON — A classical music festival bringing 17th- and 18th-century European melodies to life on period instruments will open in Songdo International City.
The 6th Incheon International Early Music Festival, co-organized by Arts Center Incheon and the Korean Baroque Society, runs from the 29th through Nov. 13 at the Arts Center Incheon Concert Hall. Supported by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism's program for leading regional arts organizations, the festival presents three concerts under the theme "Baroque Heads to Incheon."
The opening concert on the 29th, "The Bach Family," highlights musical continuity across generations through works by Johann Sebastian Bach and his sons. Guest performers include harpsichordist Beatrice Martin, winner of the 1998 Bruges International Harpsichord Competition, violinist Patrick Cohen-Akenine and flutist Anna Besson.
The second concert, "Galaxia Vivaldi," on Nov. 1, features instrumental works by Vivaldi and other composers active in 18th-century Europe. Violinist Amandine Beyer, who has led period-instrument ensembles, trumpeter Steven Marquardt and cellist Cho Hyun-keun will take the stage.
On the closing day, Nov. 13, "Celestial Voices" showcases the heart of Italian Baroque opera and vocal music. Male soprano Bruno de Sa, who performs on major European opera stages, will sing arias by Vivaldi, Vinci and Pergolesi to bring the festival to a close.
Tickets are priced at 40,000 won for R seats and 20,000 won for S seats, and can be booked through the Arts Center Incheon website and NOL Ticket.
