Mattia Liberali insists that there is plenty of young Italian talent coming through in Serie A this season and thanked Como head coach Cesc Fabregas for leaving him to ‘do his thing’ after scoring in Como’s 3-1 victory over Fiorentina on Sunday afternoon.
19-year-old Liberali scored the first Serie A goal of his career in an eventual 3-1 victory away against Fiorentina on Sunday, becoming the first Italian to score for Como since Patrick Cutrone in May of 2025.

Liberali reacts after scoring first Serie A goal: ‘Happy for the victory’
The teenager spoke to the media in a post-match press conference after full-time at the Stadio Franchi. He says that he is not overloaded with information or instructions by Fabregas, which he thinks makes life easier on the pitch.
“Fabregas doesn’t tell me anything, he lets me stay calm and do my thing, and maybe that’s the key. I hugged him out of pre joy after the goal,” said Liberali after full-time (via TMW).
It was a wonderfully taken goal from Liberali, sending his defender to the shops with his first touch to cut in off the right flank, before bending a shot beautifully into the far corner off his left boot.
He says that his first touch was the key in that move, but insists that the victory was more important than the goal.
“It was great, but I’m also happy for the victory we earned. I’ve worked hard and the results come with perseverance.
“The touch was definitely 80% of the goal. The shot is one we do every day, but the control set it all up and sent the defender packing.”
Liberali was also asked what he makes of the quantity and quality of Italian talent coming through the ranks.
He said: “I see a lot of good young Italians this year. I’m very happy for Cisse and we speak often. I also wrote to Lulli, I’m really pleased for him. I played with them in the youth teams and we’ve done well together, now they’re showing their qualities.”
