Serbia’s election commission has fixed the final list of eligible voters at 6,451,292 for Sunday’s snap parliamentary election, closing the register two days before polls open. Serbia Election 2026 follows the vote, which tests whether a student-led movement can end the rule of President Aleksandar Vučić’s party after 14 years. The vote matters beyond the Balkans, because Serbia balances ties with the European Union, Russia and China on a key migration route.
Final Voter Register Adopted
The Republic Electoral Commission (RIK) adopted the final voter-register decision on 23 October, with 30 of its 33 members in favour, according to N1. The total is 769 voters higher than the 6,450,523 announced on 9 October. Polling stations are open from 07:00 to 20:00 on Sunday, 25 October, which is 3:00 p.m. EDT at closing because Europe moves to winter time that night.
How Serbia Votes
All 250 seats in the National Assembly are filled from party lists in a single nationwide contest, using the d’Hondt method of dividing seats. A list needs 3% of votes cast to enter parliament, a bar waived for ethnic-minority parties.
Parliament was dissolved on 9 September. Vučić resigned as president on 27 September and is the candidate of his Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) for prime minister.
Polls Point to a Tight Contest
An Ipsos poll published on 22 October put SNS at 47.4% and the Student List, a slate backed by the protest movement, at 40.0%. The Socialist Party of Serbia and United Serbia alliance stood at 3.2%, just above the threshold, and the NADA coalition at 1.7%. Serbian polling is often disputed, so one survey is a snapshot rather than a forecast.
The student movement grew out of nationwide protests after the roof canopy of the Novi Sad railway station collapsed on 1 November 2024, killing 16 people. It campaigns under the slogan “Serbia or the mafia” and frames the election as a vote on corruption and accountability.
What Prediction Markets Say
Polymarket, a crypto-based exchange, lists a Serbian parliamentary election winner market with about US$3.6 million traded. It priced the list led by Vučić (United Serbia) at 71.5% as of 10:22 p.m. ET on 23 October. Separate Polymarket markets on vote share and turnout show wide spreads, with a 66–70% turnout band the most favoured at 45.5%. These prices are bets, not polls.
Why we show this: prediction markets turn real-money bets into a live probability that moves within minutes of the news, which is why investors, campaigns and newsrooms in the United States now follow them closely. We show them next to polls and official results, never instead of them.
What It Means for You
For readers in the United States, the result shows whether a protest movement can turn street pressure into votes against a long-ruling government. A close result could mean weeks of coalition talks and dispute over the count, which would matter for Western policy in the region.
What Is Not Known
Turnout, the winner and the final seat split will only be known after counting. It is not yet clear whether either bloc can govern without partners, or whether the losing side will accept the official result.
