'It’s funny to watch it, but you think about what could have happened. What if?' says Dubuque Police Lt. Luke Bock

A runaway inflatable pumpkin had drivers on an Iowa street on high alert, bumping into parked cars as it drifted down the road.
The City of Dubuque shared traffic camera video showing the peculiar sight involving the rogue Halloween lawn decoration as it rolled down the main street in the town’s downtown.
Dubuque Police Department told local news outlet KCRG that the inflatable gourd broke free Tuesday afternoon.
“It’s entertaining. It’s funny to watch it, but you think about what could have happened. What if?” Dubuque Police Lt. Luke Bock said, adding that he could laugh at the incident as there wasn’t much traffic on the street at the time.
Driver swerves to avoid gourd
Only one vehicle was seen swerving to avoid hitting the inflatable Jack-o’-lantern before it drifted out of camera view.
The driver who drove around the giant gourd said she was on her way to work when she encountered the unusual traffic hazard.
“I was like, ‘Is it going to hit me? Is it going to hit my car? Is it going to go over my car?’” Pam McCarron told KCRG. “It’s big enough where I couldn’t see around it to know if there was anything on the other side when it was on the other side of the street.”
City officials joked about the incident on Facebook, stating, “no people, vehicles, parking meters, or giant pumpkins were damaged in the making of this video.”
It added, “We love seeing all of the Halloween decorations around town. But be sure you secure your front porch ghosts, 12-foot skeletons, and giant inflatable pumpkins so they don’t end up flying away.”
