A 40-year-old man was arrested for allegedly beating his wife to death following a quarrel while both were under the influence of alcohol at Vaikalmedu near Nasiyanur here on Monday (October 19, 2026).
The accused, Nagaraj, a powerloom worker, lived with his wife, Rajeswari, 38, in the area. The couple had been married for 14 years and have a son and a daughter.
According to the police, both Nagaraj and Rajeswari consumed alcohol regularly and occasionally drank together. On Monday, the couple consumed alcohol and got into an argument over a family dispute. In a fit of rage, Nagaraj allegedly assaulted Rajeswari. She collapsed and died at the spot.
On being alerted, the Chithode police rushed to the scene, recovered the body and sent it to the Government Hospital in Bhavani for a post-mortem examination. The police arrested Nagaraj.
