Your paddle matters, but so does the ball you're hitting
Pickleballs come in different designs depending on where and how you play, so grabbing the first pack you see might not always be your best bet.
Whether you're a beginner, an indoor player, or training to play like a pro, here are five pickleballs worth checking out:
1. For beginners
If you're just getting into pickleball, this set is a practical starting point because this Franklin Pickleball Beginner Set comes with four official-size X-40 outdoor pickleballs, so you have spare balls ready for practice and casual games. The balls are also USA Pickleball approved, making them suitable if you eventually want to move from beginner sessions to competitive or tournament play.
It's a good fit for new players who want to learn the game with equipment that can continue to be useful as their skills improve. For Malaysians who are starting out with outdoor pickleball, having four balls in the set also means less hassle when a ball gets misplaced during a game.

2. For indoor players
If you want to play pickleball without making every hit heard across the room, the MCS Silent Pickleball is built for quieter sessions. It produces sound levels as low as 32 dB and features shock absorption for a more controlled feel, making it a practical option for indoor games where noise can quickly become a nuisance.
It is suited to players who practise or play regularly in shared indoor spaces, especially when you want to be considerate of others nearby. The ball is also designed to be indoor-friendly without damaging floors, while its indoor and outdoor use gives you more flexibility between different playing environments.
3. For outdoor players
If you're ready to take outdoor pickleball more seriously, the Franklin Sports X-40 is built for consistent play. Its precision-drilled holes are designed to provide steady flight and reliable spin, while the durable polyethylene construction helps resist denting and cracking on outdoor courts.
The bright neon colour also makes the ball easier to track during rallies, which can be useful when playing outdoors. Made to USA Pickleball size and weight regulations, the X-40 suits players who want a ball for both recreational games and tournament play.

4. For pro players
Already past the "just playing for fun" stage? The ARRONAX X-5 Elite Pro is made for outdoor players who want a ball that can keep up with more serious rallies. Its 40-hole design is built for consistent flight and accuracy, while the PE rotomoulded construction provides durability, elasticity, and a reliable bounce.
It also comes in a bright colour, so keeping your eye on the ball is easier whether you're playing under the sun or court lights. With its focus on consistent performance, this one makes sense for players who spend more time training, competing or working on their game.
