Eric Dane witnessed a "minor miracle" while battling ALS - seeing Oasis perform together again.
The Grey's Anatomy star - who died in February at the age of 53 after being diagnosed with the degenerative neurological disorder in April 2025 - travelled to Tokyo in October 2025 with his closest friends to see the reunited band in order to lift his spirits amid his health struggles, and he was "uplifted" seeing how brothers and bandmates Liam and Noel Gallagher had been able to move past their years of estrangement.
In an extract shared by People magazine from the upcoming memoir he wrote before his death, My Book of Days: A Memoir in Moments, he wrote: "Oasis, the band, doesn’t save me, but they move me, they uplift me. The previously estranged brothers hug repeatedly, grinning at one another before each song. You see, they seem to say, if the two of us can reconcile, anything is possible. If we can fix this, you can fix anything. Miracles can happen.
"Miracle-wise, I feel tapped out. I have used all mine up. I’m on life number 15 , but I don’t see life number 16 waiting in the wings. It’s hard hoping for the impossible while waiting for the inevitable.
"At least I lived to see Oasis playing together again, in Tokyo. I’ll call witnessing that a minor miracle."
Eric first realised there was something amiss with his health while eating sushi in January 2024, more than a year before his eventual diagnosis.
He wrote: "I’m eating sushi with my kids and suddenly I can’t work the chopsticks with my right hand. My hand tingles, and then my fingers feel numb.
"Some kind of weird nerve thing, I think. I shake it off. I’m probably texting too much.
"Three weeks later, it happens again, only worse. I can’t grip the chopsticks at all."
Eric - who was father to Billie, 16, and Georgia, 14, from his marriage to Rebecca Gayheart - recalled a moment while on holiday in Antigua when he had to be rescued from the water by his youngest daughter and her friend after realising he didn't have the power to swim any more.
He wrote: "Georgia hands me my phone. 'What happened?' Rebecca says. 'I can’t swim, Rebecca,' I say. 'I can’t swim.'
"She explodes into tears and I weep with her. We cry together. Finally, the tears slow, become reduced to gasps, and when we’re both cried out, Rebecca says, 'I was afraid of this day. I knew it would come. I’ve been dreading it.'"
And last December he had an emotional moment with his eldest daughter when he realised he couldn't give Billie their "traditional" post-show hug after her ballet performance of The Nutcracker.
He wrote: "'Billie, I’m so sorry. I’m so sorry I can’t wrap my arms around you. I wish I could wrap my arms around you. I can’t lift my arms anymore.'
"We break into sobs at the same time. She remains kneeling, forming some impossible tableau, her arms locked around me, clinging to me, her back falling and rising with sobs. Tears stream down my cheeks, flooding her marks of red lips, ruining them, creating crimson blotches. It looks as if my cheeks have been smeared with blood.
"And then, weirdly, I feel wonderful. This moment — my daughter holding me, my arms and hands useless, the two of us crying — feels incredibly beautiful and I think we may be forced to start a new tradition. Then Billie pulls away and wipes her cheek and nose with the back of her wrist, and she whispers, 'I love you, Dad.'"
