When the history of this era in the NFL is written, the five best quarterbacks are almost invariably going to be listed as Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers and Patrick Mahomes.
Now, Carolina Panthers quarterback Bryce Young has a long, long, long way to go before he's even considered for that type of conversation. But he's started out his fourth pro campaign so hot that he has a chance to catch a record of two of those legends in 2026.
According to Ted Nguyen and Joe Person at The Athletic, Young's four-game streak of at least 280 passing yards and a touchdown to begin the season is one shy of Brees' record. And with six more, he'll tie Manning's ridiculous start to the 2013 season:
Young, drafted first overall in 2023, has passed for at least 280 yards and a touchdown in each of the Panthers’ four games. That’s the longest such streak to start a season since 2013 when Drew Brees had 280-plus yards and a TD in the New Orleans Saints’ first five games and Peyton Manning reached those numbers in the first 10 games for the Denver Broncos.
Young has been brilliant in three of his four starts, throwing accurately and aggressively despite facing more quick pressures than any other quarterback in the league. In his one off game against Cleveland, he still managed to put up 291 passing yards and a score through constant pressure and a depleted receiving corps.
Next up are the Philadelphia Eagles, who have allowed the seventh-most passing yards per game (238.8) thus far. Young enters Week 6 averaging a league-leading 317.0 passing yards per contest.
