The vice-presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Rabiu Kwankwaso, has urged the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to focus on responding to allegations made against its presidential candidate by Vice-President Kashim Shettima instead of criticising him and the NDC presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
Kwankwaso accused the ADC Presidential Campaign Council of directing unnecessary attacks at the NDC leadership ahead of the 2027 general elections, particularly over claims that the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket was working in the interest of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The former Kano State governor made his position known in a statement published on his official X account on Sunday.
He also rejected suggestions that the NDC would withdraw from the presidential race at the last minute to support the ADC, insisting that his party remained committed to contesting the election.
Kwankwaso argued that the ADC campaign should prioritise addressing the allegations raised by Shettima against its presidential candidate rather than engaging in attacks against the NDC ticket.
“The ADC-PCC would be better served directing its energy toward rebutting the serious allegations levelled against their candidate by the Vice President, His Excellency Kashim Shettima, instead of targeting me and His Excellency Peter Obi,” he said.
The NDC vice-presidential candidate also accused the ADC campaign of attempting to portray his party as a political instrument of the APC.
He warned that suggestions of a possible withdrawal by the NDC could create confusion among its supporters, particularly as the election approaches.
NDC Rules Out Withdrawal From 2027 Race
Kwankwaso insisted that the NDC would not abandon its presidential ticket in favour of the ADC or any other political party.
“Let me state clearly and unequivocally: we will not withdraw our candidature for the ADC or any other party. We remain confident in our capacity, competence, and readiness to lead Nigeria,” he declared.
He maintained that the party had no reason to step aside and dismissed allegations that its presidential ticket was working to advance the APC’s political interests.
Kwankwaso further criticised both the ruling party and the ADC, arguing that neither offered the solutions Nigerians needed.

“The APC-led government has failed Nigerians. The ADC offers no better alternative,” he stated.
The former Kano governor described the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket as a credible platform for addressing Nigeria’s major challenges, including insecurity, unemployment, education, agriculture, infrastructure, healthcare and economic difficulties.
He also presented the ticket as a unifying political platform with support across northern and southern Nigeria.
Kwankwaso urged NDC supporters to remain committed to the party’s campaign as preparations for the 2027 general elections continue.
