Four million South African pensioners are in line for a double grant payout this month after SASSA adjusted the payment schedule for November 2026 Older Person Grants.
The November payment was originally set for Tuesday 3 November 2026, but the South African Social Security Agency moved it forward to Friday 30 October 2026 to accommodate upcoming local government elections. Because the previous payday fell exactly 28 days before the new date, elderly beneficiaries will receive two grant payments within October alone.
What pensioners can expect this month
Current grant amounts remain at R2 400 per month for those aged 60 to 74, and R2 420 for those aged 75 and older. These figures reflect an R80 increase introduced in April 2026, with no further top-up applied since, unlike the October adjustments seen in the two preceding years.
Some beneficiaries whose accounts are under review will receive a deferred payment on a separate fourth payment date, now set for Thursday 5 November 2026.
There is cautious optimism that Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana's Medium-Term Budget Policy Statement, scheduled for 21 October 2026, could signal better news about grant levels heading into 2027. For now, though, the double payout offers a small but welcome boost for households dependent on the grant.

Fraud costing SASSA over R1 billion a year
The Auditor-General recently informed Parliament that more than a billion rand in SASSA grants is being drawn illegally each year. To combat this, the agency cross-references beneficiary data with other government departments and banks. Anyone found to be receiving a grant unlawfully faces repayment of those funds.
SASSA continues to enforce strict eLife certification and biometric verification requirements. Those who cannot visit a SASSA office in person, due to age, illness or remote location, may have a family member assist with their application, provided a doctor's letter and certified copies of all required documents are supplied.
New applicants can expect a processing period of roughly three months, with backdated payments to the date of the original application once approved.

Rachel Harris commented:
"I will wait and believe it when it's in my bank account"
Bullet Proof David Mapela added:
