DANCE, music and food from across India will take centre stage at the Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday, October 24, as the Indian High Commission hosts the fourth edition of India Fest.
Organisers are hoping to surpass last year’s attendance of more than 4,000 people at the festival, which celebrates India’s cultural diversity and its longstanding friendship with Ghana.
Briefing the media in Accra yesterday, the High Commissioner of India to Ghana, Surinder Bhagat, said the festival had grown from a small community gathering into a major cultural event attracting Indians, Ghanaians, students, businesspeople and other expatriates.
The programme will feature traditional and Bollywood dance performances, music, Indian cuisine, and exhibitions of traditional clothing, jewellery and handicrafts.
Thirteen registered Indian associations are expected to participate, alongside Ghanaian performers. Mr Bhagat said the involvement of Ghanaian artistes reflected the enduring friendship between the two countries.
He said organisers had revised entry procedures and improved on-site coordination to ensure a smoother experience for visitors.
Fire and ambulance services would be available, while food vendors would be required to meet basic safety standards.
The official inauguration and cultural performances are scheduled to begin after 6:45 p.m., with activities expected to continue into the evening.
Mr Bhagat said the festival was about more than entertainment, describing it as an opportunity for the public to gain a better understanding of India’s economic and development partnership with Ghana.
He said the relationship had expanded beyond their shared anti-colonial history and cooperation in multilateral organisations to encompass a broader range of areas.
He cited the memorandum of understanding on cultural exchange signed during the Indian Prime Minister’s state visit to Ghana in July 2025 as an important step towards deepening mutual understanding through art, music, dance, literature and heritage.
Mr Bhagat said visitors would have the opportunity to experience India’s cultural diversity while strengthening the bonds between the two countries.
