Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani got on base in the fourth inning of Wednesday’s Game 3 of the 2026 NLCS against the Milwaukee Brewers, but he did so painfully.
The four-time Most Valuable Player was hit by an 81 mph sweeper from Brewers pitcher Robert Gasser.

Fortunately for Ohtani and the whole Dodgers nation, Ohtani did not suffer an injury after absorbing that pitch, though he gingerly tried to shake off the pain after the pitch and before he went to first base.
Gasser then retired the next two batters to finish the inning, striking out Andy Pages and induing a Kyle Tucker flyout to escape the inning without giving up a run.
The 32-year-old Ohtani has been simply not himself in the playoffs. Entering Wednesday, he had hit just .150/.261/.150 with zero home runs, no RBIs and only a stolen base through six games and 24 plate appearances. He’s struggled so much that he’s been dropped to No. 6 in Los Angeles’ batting order. There had also been talks heading into Game 3 that the Dodgers could bench him.
Game 3 of the Brewers series did not start very well for the reigning World Series champions, with Jackson Chourio taking Dodgers starter Blake Snell deep on the first pitch of the contest.
Down 2-0 in the series, the Dodgers would certainly welcome a return of Ohtani’s vintage form, as they look to avoid falling down a 3-0 hole against Milwaukee. It could just be a matter of time before Ohtani finally breaks out of his slump, but the Dodgers need that to happen before it’s too late.
