Paris Saint-Germain’s win over Barcelona came at a cost. Once again, the reigning European champions put on a spectacle as they look to defend their UEFA Champions League crown.
The 4-2 win will likely not mean too much in the grand scheme of things. Both PSG and Barcelona are all but certain to progress. Based on the levels shown by both teams at the Parc des Princes, they will fancy their chances of a top eight finish, which would allow them to bypass the play-off round.
But it could be a consequential game for PSG. As reported by L’Équipe, Les Parisiens fear that Khvicha Kvaratskhelia may have sustained an ACL injury. The Georgian will undergo tests on Wednesday. He wasn’t the only one forced off. Ousmane Dembélé lasted just 20 minutes before sustaining a hamstring injury. Marquinhos was forced off at the same time as Kvaratskhelia with a thigh injury. The captain’s situation is the one that elicits the least fear among PSG’s medical staff.
“The three injuries are the worst news,” said Luis Enrique in his post-match press conference attended by Get French Football News. “That’s how football is at the highest level.”
