Ochsner Children’s, part of New Orleans-based Ochsner Health, has joined the Tiny Baby Collaborative, an international research network focused on infants born at 23 weeks’ gestation or earlier.
The neonatal intensive care unit at Ochsner Baptist in New Orleans will share data with other participating centers and help develop care practices for “extremely premature” infants, according to an Oct. 21 news release from the health system.
Membership requires a formal review and will allow Ochsner Children’s to benchmark its outcomes against other participating centers and take part in research and quality improvement projects. Ochsner is the only Louisiana hospital among the collaborative’s 61 members, which span eight countries, the release said.
“Through this collaboration, we can learn from leading neonatal centers around the world, contribute to research and continually improve outcomes for our smallest patients,” Jose Perez, MD, associate medical director for pediatrics and system medical director of neonatal intensive care at Ochsner Children’s, said in the release.
