Riding on its success in the tourism industry, La Campagne Tropicana Resort is stepping into the visual art scene with a creative empowerment initiative for artists.
The hospitality company has opened applications for the first edition of its art residency, a two-month programme for Nigerian artists and artisans. The residency will run from February 5- April4, 2027 at the resort in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos, but applications close on November 30, 2026.
The programme will bring artists and artisans together to make new work, trade ideas and examine how art, culture, place and tourism relate to one another. Residents are encouraged to draw on the resort and its surroundings while following their own creative interests.
The call is open to practitioners in the visual and applied arts, traditional crafts, design and related fields. Applicants must live in Nigeria, be at least 20 years old when the residency begins, and be able to take part for the full period.
Residents will have time to work on an agreed project and to engage with fellow participants, and the programme will close with a presentation or sharing of work and ideas. Applicants may propose research, experimentation or the development of new work, and a finished artwork is not required unless agreed as part of an individual project.
Offering other details of the residency, Babafemi Ojudu, a senator and chairman of the residency programme committee, noted that the committee will provide accommodation and meals, travel and local transport support, materials and production support, a stipend, and insurance and healthcare arrangements.
Also, selected applicants will receive the amounts, coverage and practical details in writing before they are asked to accept a place. Applicants with accessibility or other support needs are encouraged to contact the committee so suitable arrangements can be discussed.
Applications will be assessed on the quality of the applicant’s practice, the strength and feasibility of the proposal, and its relevance to the residency. Applicants should send a short biography or CV, a portfolio or examples of recent work, a brief proposal for what they wish to explore or develop, their location and contact details, and confirmation that they are available for the full programme dates.
Those selected will receive a detailed programme and a written residency agreement covering support, facilities, participation expectations, and the ownership, display and use of work created during the residency. A place will be confirmed only once these terms have been agreed.
