Mercedes-AMG, the performance unit of Mercedes-Benz Group, unveiled the AMG GT SUV on Oct. 17. It is the brand's first full-size SUV developed in-house, and the top GT 63 version has peak output of up to 1,153 hp, the company said.
The 2028 model is due at U.S. dealerships in summer 2027. Three versions will be available at launch: the GT 63, the GT 55 and the GT 53. The company said the SUV is the second vehicle based on its AMG.EA high-performance architecture, after the AMG GT 4-Door Coupe.
The GT 63 uses three axial flux motors that produce 711 hp of continuous output and 1,475 lb-ft of torque. Mercedes-AMG estimates 0-60 mph in 2.4 seconds, measured with a one-foot rollout, and an electronically limited top speed of 168 mph. The company’s European release lists the same peak output as 860 kW, or 1,169 metric horsepower (PS).
The GT 55 also has three axial flux motors and produces up to 805 hp. The GT 53 has two synchronous motors that deliver a combined 536 hp.
The GT 63 and GT 55 carry an 800-volt, 128-kWh battery. The GT 53 has a 106-kWh battery.
The larger battery supports DC charging at up to 710 kW. Mercedes-AMG said that allows a charge from 10% to 80% in 12 minutes and up to 450 km of WLTP range in as little as 10 minutes. The GT 53 charges at up to 600 kW. The company put WLTP range for the GT 63 and GT 55 at 620 to 700 km. It described the charging and range figures as preliminary.
"We're demonstrating that electric performance today no longer requires any compromises in sustained power, range or charging speed," Jörg Burzer, Mercedes-Benz Group's chief technology officer, said in a statement.
In Germany, the GT 53 will be available to order from Oct. 20 at 113,050 euros, including VAT, the company said. The GT 63 and GT 55 follow in spring 2027. U.S. pricing has not been announced, according to Motor1.
Mercedes-AMG will assemble the SUV in Hall 32 at the Mercedes-Benz plant in Sindelfingen, which has been retrofitted for AMG.EA technology.
