Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) — Iraq may get access to new trade routes connecting Europe, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia after an agreement between Port of NEOM and CEVA Almajdouie Logistics to investigate integrated cargo services linking the Red Sea with Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) nations and Iraq.
The planned logistical corridor comes as the region’s war worsens and shipping via the Strait of Hormuz is disrupted, making other trade routes more important for Iraq and other Gulf nations.
Under a memorandum of understanding, the two corporations will look into methods to optimize the flow of products along the Europe-Egypt-Saudi Arabia-GCC-Iraq corridor by integrating marine shipping with land transport, customs clearing, storage, and cross-border distribution.
The Port of NEOM, situated in Saudi Arabia’s northwestern Red Sea area, is being developed as a logistics hub linking international shipping lines to domestic markets.
The cooperation would use the port’s marine links and CEVA Almajdouie Logistics’ regional transport network to provide companies with better coordinated cargo services between ports and ultimate destinations.
For Iraq, the corridor might offer an extra route for imports and commercial cargo coming from Europe and other foreign markets, thus decreasing dependence on regular Gulf shipping routes.
The effort also emphasizes Saudi Arabia’s expanding importance in linking Iraq to regional and worldwide supply chains, especially as corporations seek alternatives to sea routes vulnerable to geopolitical disruptions.
The company seek to study combined customer service, market growth, and logistical solutions for various sorts of cargo.
The arrangement is still exploratory, with no precise investment value, implementation timeline, or verified cargo quantities stated.
While the planned corridor has the potential to increase Iraq’s economic relations with Saudi Arabia and other GCC nations, its actual effects will be determined by the development of cross-border transportation services, customs procedures, and business demand.
