Jaber Al-Ahmad Hospital has successfully performed a catheter-based aortic valve replacement on a patient in his seventies, demonstrating Kuwait’s expertise in advanced cardiac interventions. The procedure was broadcast live via satellite to the Gulf Heart Valve Conference in Dubai, where it provided an opportunity for medical specialists to observe the intervention.
According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Health on Thursday, the patient had been suffering from severe aortic valve narrowing, a condition that had resulted in repeated hospital admissions because of fluid accumulation in the lungs, commonly referred to as water in the lungs. Following the procedure, the patient’s condition improved, and he was discharged from hospital in good health just two days later.
The intervention was performed under local anesthesia by a medical team comprising Dr. Ali Saheb and Dr. Mohammed Al-Turki. The doctors used the Navitor Vision valve, a modern device designed for implantation through a catheter to treat aortic stenosis, a condition in which narrowing of the aortic valve restricts the flow of blood from the heart.
The catheter-based approach enables the valve to be implanted through an interventional procedure rather than conventional open-heart valve replacement surgery. In this case, the successful intervention was followed by the patient’s discharge within 48 hours, according to the ministry.
The Ministry of Health added that Jaber Al-Ahmad Hospital continues to strengthen its capabilities in complex catheter-based cardiac interventions by providing specialized medical care and sharing expertise through participation in specialized regional conferences.
The organizers of the Gulf Heart Valve Conference, along with participating experts from the United States, praised the experience and competence of Kuwait’s doctors, the ministry said. The successful procedure highlights the hospital’s role in advancing specialized cardiac care in Kuwait while contributing to the exchange of medical knowledge and expertise with regional and international specialists.
