KUALA LUMPUR: It is premature to comment on Perikatan Nasional's status following its deregistration, as the coalition intends to appeal, says Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said.
She said questions on the matter should be directed to Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, who oversees the Registrar of Societies.
"I think let them be, because now they want to file an appeal, right? I won't respond. In English, (it) says premature," she told reporters at a press conference during the Anti-Bullying Act 2026 Literacy Programme at the Malaysian Teacher Education Institute's Malay Language Campus today.
The Registrar of Societies today cancelled Perikatan Nasional's registration after finding that the coalition's explanation failed to address the grounds for cancellation outlined in an earlier notice.
Perikatan Nasional secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan said today that the coalition would challenge the deregistration and seek a court stay of the decision.
The Registrar of Societies issued Perikatan Nasional a show-cause notice on Sept 22 and suspended its activities the following day, following a complaint by component party Bersatu.
The High Court on Oct 13 granted Perikatan Nasional leave to challenge the suspension, with its application for a stay to be heard on Thursday.
