About a year ago, the long-running Minneapolis indie duo Now, Now dropped their surprise EP 01, and we were into their song "Talk To God." Today, the group follows that EP with their new song "Slide" — a one-off single for now, though they promise more music on the way. "Slide" is a slinky pulsing synth-pop groove that's a little sleeker than anything I can remember from these two. In a press release, KC Dalager, one half of the duo, says:
With "Slide," we tried to capture a sense of weightlessness and freedom, the feeling of a roller rink. Confidence. A little bit of nostalgia. Not allowing anyone else’s expectations of you to dictate what you do. It is a pretty straightforward track lyrically, lighthearted. I have struggled in my life feeling trapped in other’s unwanted feelings, so this is the antithesis of that.
Dalager and her bandmate Brad Hale co-directed the striking "Slide" video with Tom Thornton, and it's got Dalager skating around an otherwise abandoned roller disco with a desperate look in her eye. Check it out below.
