"This lady is effortlessly funny": Passenger grills taxi driver about CCTV camera, SA in stitches

• A woman known for lifting passengers' moods in taxis turned a CCTV camera into comedy gold on her latest TikTok
• The clip, filmed inside a South African minibus taxi, sparked debate over whether the camera was there for safety or to watch the driver
• South Africans flooded the comments, saying the woman was effortlessly funny and they wished they could ride in her taxi

A South African woman who uses humour to "detox" fellow taxi commuters from stress has done it again, this time by zeroing in on a CCTV camera mounted inside a minibus taxi. TikTok creator @kgao305 posted the clip on 10 October 2026, overlaying it with the caption "bare CCTV ke decor" (they say CCTV is decor). In the video, she playfully confronts the taxi driver about the surveillance camera overhead, questioning who exactly is watching it.

Fellow passengers crack up as the exchange unfolds, with the driver caught somewhere between amusement and mild embarrassment. The lighthearted back-and-forth quickly spilt into the comments section, where viewers debated the real purpose of the camera. Was it there to keep passengers safe, or was it installed by the taxi owner to make sure the driver was not pocketing extra fares on the side?

SA taxi culture at its best

Minibus taxis are a daily reality for millions of South Africans, and for many commuters, the ride is far from glamorous. Long waits, packed seats and unpredictable drivers are all part of the experience, but now and then, someone like TikTok user @kgao305 turns the whole thing into must-watch entertainment.
