Erling Haaland is arguably the best striker in the world at the moment, and the Norwegian continues to lead the line for Manchester City. He is also comfortably the Premier League’s highest-paid player, reflecting his importance to Enzo Maresca’s side and his standing among the game’s elite forwards.
However, uncertainty surrounds City’s future following their guilt over financial breaches over several years. The club could face relegation if serious sanctions are imposed, potentially opening the door for rival teams to pursue some of their biggest stars. Arsenal would be among the clubs expected to show interest if Haaland became available.
Arsenal urged to pursue Haaland in January
Haaland is currently leading City’s efforts to prevent Arsenal from retaining the Premier League title. His goalscoring ability makes him a major threat to the Gunners, but talk of a potential move has prompted suggestions that Arsenal should attempt to bring him to the Emirates Stadium instead.
Several clubs would likely be interested in signing the Norwegian if he became available, given his remarkable scoring record and ability to influence matches at the highest level. However, pundit Adrian Durham believes Arsenal should not wait for circumstances to change and should instead make an approach when the January transfer window opens.
Such a move would be ambitious, considering Haaland’s importance to City and the financial commitment his signing would require. Nevertheless, Durham believes Arsenal should be more decisive in their search for an elite striker.

Durham questions Arsenal’s current attacking options
Durham also questioned Arsenal’s continued reliance on Kai Havertz, arguing that the German does not offer the elite goalscoring threat the club needs. He believes the Gunners should target a forward of Haaland’s calibre rather than continue with their current approach.
Speaking as quoted by the Metro, Durham explained his thinking:
‘Then, I thought Erling Haaland would get into any side in the world, his goal rate is phenomenal, and then an idea struck me, Arsenal in January should go for Erling Haaland.
‘The reason is this… they’ve been dilly-dallying about, showing a bit of pity on Kai Havertz, saying he works hard, when he really isn’t that elite level striker that they want.’
