Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes’ £4 million home in Cheshire was burgled during the 4-1 Champions League defeat to Como on Wednesday night, the Daily Mail reports.
The Portuguese midfielder’s six-bedroom mansion in Nether Alderley was targeted around 8.30pm while he played in United’s heavy defeat.
The police are already investigating the incident, and officers are working to identify those responsible.
According to reports, three masked men entered the luxury property and stole several items, including designer jewellery.
Fernandes’ family were not at home when the burglary took place, and the suspects are believed to have spent only about five minutes inside the house.
Neighbours reportedly spotted three unknown men in the garden of a nearby property and alerted the police. However, when officers arrived, the suspects had already dispersed.
Cheshire Police confirmed officers were called to the Alderley Park area of Nether Alderley around 8.30pm after reports of suspicious activity.
A police spokesperson said: “At around 8.30pm on Wednesday 21 October, police were called to reports of suspicious activity at an address in the Alderley Park area of Nether Alderley.
“The caller reported three unknown men in the rear garden of a neighbouring property. Officers attended the scene, and on arrival there was no trace of the suspects.
“However, officers discovered that there had been a burglary at the address and a number of items had been stolen.”
Detective Inspector David Jarvis added: “This investigation is in its early stages at this time, and we’re committed to doing all we can to trace the people responsible.
“As part of our enquiries, we’re keen to hear from anyone who was in the local area at the time and believes they may have witnessed anything suspicious.”
Fernandes was in Italy when the break-in occurred, having travelled with United for their Champions League fixture against Como.
The midfielder played 67 minutes before being replaced by Joshua Zirkzee in a disappointing night for Michael Carrick’s side.
United are supporting their captain and have asked for privacy for him and his family as they deal with the incident.
