Wiper Democratic Movement leader Kalonzo Musyoka has declared that he will defeat President William Ruto in Luo Nyanza during the 2027 General Election, framing his presidential bid as a continuation of the late Raila Odinga's unfinished political mission.

Speaking at a press briefing in Nairobi on Monday, October 19, Kalonzo drew heavily on the biblical metaphor that Raila made central to his political campaigns, vowing to deliver Kenyans to what the former opposition chief famously called "Canaan."
Kalonzo invokes Raila's Canaan vision
"The journey to Canaan is still on. It is not, as some would want to say, via Singapore," Kalonzo said, addressing Raila directly in his remarks. "I want Raila to know. I will get to Canaan."

Kalonzo recast the biblical roles Raila had previously assigned, noting that Raila had nicknamed him Caleb while casting himself as Joshua. He suggested the roles had since been reversed, positioning himself as the Joshua now charged with leading Kenyans forward.
"The Joshua of the moment will do whatever it takes to get us to Canaan, and Canaan will be a land not just flowing with milk and honey but in modern days a democratic state, a Kenya where every Kenyan from every part of our republic, from Lodwar to Kwale, from Garissa to Migingo Island, people feel that we have arrived in Canaan," he said.
He also directed sharp criticism at Ruto's administration, accusing the government of deploying "2,500 goons to scare people in Kitale" and labelling it a "predator nation." He described the president as a pharaoh who would be defeated at the ballot.
"Pharaoh, who is the leader of the predetermined nation, will drown. He will drown as he tries to cross the Red Sea, which is a Kenyan democratic space. He will drown come the 10th of August next year," Kalonzo said.
Luo Nyanza campaign plans
Kalonzo announced concrete plans to campaign in Raila's traditional strongholds, stating his intention to visit Homa Bay and Migori within the coming days. He had initially planned a trip on Wednesday but said consultations pushed the visit to the following week.
"If I'm given the flagship, I want to assure Kenyans that I will defeat William Ruto in Luo Nyanza. That's a fact. Because I know our fellow citizens in Luo Nyanza are so democratic, so fair-minded, you cannot hoodwink them," he said.
Kalonzo has been widely regarded as the frontrunner among opposition figures eyeing the 2027 presidency following Raila's passing, with some polls showing him as the most preferred candidate on that side of the political divide.
