The Telangana government will complete the comprehensive land resurvey in three phases to establish precise boundaries for every land parcel and provide clarity on ownership rights, Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy said.
The survey has been completed in 285 revenue villages, and notices have been issued to landowners inviting objections, he said after a review meeting with revenue officials on Saturday (October 17, 2026). The government is preparing to complete the first phase by the end of November.
To accelerate the exercise, tenders were finalised for procuring an additional 400 rovers, over and above the 411 already purchased, the Minister said.
10,954 revenue villages in Telangana
Of the State’s 10,954 revenue villages, 2,720 villages were selected for the first phase, covering 70 villages each in the 32 districts, excluding Hyderabad. Villages where survey maps are unavailable have also been included in the exercise.
Mr. Reddy said the resurvey was undertaken in line with Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s vision of a Telangana free of land disputes. Land was not merely an asset for farmers but their livelihood, and the government will ensure clear boundaries for every parcel, a unique Bhudhaar number for every survey number and greater security for landowners.
He said outdated records, including Nizam-era survey records dating back to 1936, had contributed to uncertainty over land boundaries in several parts of the State. Subsequent land divisions, subdivisions of survey numbers, urbanisation and changes in administrative boundaries had further complicated the issue.
The government was using modern technologies such as Differential Global Positioning System (DGPS), rovers and Geographic Information System (GIS), along with QGIS software, replacing traditional surveying equipment. The digital recording of survey data would improve measurement accuracy and help prevent future boundary disputes, he said.
Survey numbers rise from 40 lakh to 2.29 crore
The data collected through DGPS would be processed using QGIS software and incorporated into the Bhu Bharati portal. The government had drawn up a plan to assign unique Bhudhaar numbers to all survey numbers in a phased manner. While the State had about 40 lakh survey numbers in 1948, the number had grown to 2.29 crore, he said.
The Minister announced that Bhudhaar pattas would soon be distributed in Kongara village of Nelakondapalli mandal in his Palair Assembly constituency, where the resurvey had been completed across all 665 acres.
