Despite weakening, Typhoon Rosal (international name: Champi) still affected parts of northern Luzon on Thursday.
According to Tina Panganiban-Perez's report on "24 Oras," large waves could be seen raging in Batanes waters because of Rosal’s strength.
Because of the strong winds, the boats in Batanes were docked in preparation for the cyclone. Some of the vessels were in a shelter port in Mahato, Batanes so that it would not be swept away by the waves.
Citizens were forbidden from sailing, swimming or even coming near the sea. Batanes is currently under Code Red. Some residents have also boarded up their windows to prepare.
Classes and government work in Batanes have been suspended until Friday. Only government agencies concerning public order and safety are expected to operate.
Meanwhile, in Calayan, Cagayan, the sky was dark and the waves were strong.
Classes and government work were also suspended, and a liquor ban was also implemented.
In Ilocos Norte, farmers quickly harvested their crops. Some of the palay they were drying had gotten wet because of Rosal’s rains.
According to state weather bureau PAGASA's 5 p.m. cyclone bulletin, Rosal was last spotted 350 kilometers east of Itbayat, Batanes. —Jean Mangaluz/NB, GMA News
