BUSAN — The Yangsan Carbon Neutrality Support Center, operated under contract by Youngsan University, has built a cooperative framework with local elementary, middle and high schools to strengthen ecological transition education by linking environmental clubs with campaigns. The move expands climate education from one-off environmental classes into student-led practices in daily life.
Youngsan University said on Oct. 15 that the center signed agreements last month with Beomeo Elementary School, Gayang Elementary School and Sasong High School, followed by an agreement with Mulgeum Donga Middle School on Oct. 6. The center widened its partnerships to schools that had taken part in its visiting carbon neutrality education program and expressed a commitment to environmental education.
Under the agreements, the center will give priority in its visiting carbon neutrality education program to these schools and will provide support including referrals to specialist instructors for environmental club activities and student-led carbon neutrality campaigns. The approach links classes, club activities and joint campaigns while reflecting each school's teaching conditions and needs.
The partnership focuses on improving the continuity of education so that students do not stop at learning the concepts of the climate crisis and carbon neutrality but can put them into practice in everyday life. The plan is to establish a foundation for environmental education in schools and connect student participation to sustained action.
"We will work with schools to develop a range of ecological transition education models so that students can practice carbon neutrality themselves through clubs and campaigns," said Oh Chang-seok, head of the Yangsan Carbon Neutrality Support Center.
The center serves as a hub for cooperation among local industry, academia, citizens and government, supporting policy development, public awareness efforts and environmental education aimed at achieving carbon neutrality in Yangsan by 2050.
