The 2026-27 NBA regular season tips off with three games of high-octane action that will electrify national TV audiences on opening night.
And the evening kicks off with the Boston Celtics taking on the Detroit Pistons for the primetime start to the evening’s schedule. The focus turns to the Garden for the main attraction, as the defending champion New York Knicks raise their championship banner before taking on a reloaded Philadelphia 76ers team.
And to finish the night off, basketball fans can look forward to a high-voltage Western Conference Finals rematch as the Oklahoma City Thunder head south to do battle with the San Antonio Spurs.
Prior to tip-off, leading edge computer projection models and betting experts have unveiled their picks and best bets for the game. Experts are siding with the Knicks to cover the spread as favorite against Philadelphia.
New York, a team that returns its complete synergistic championship core and its own superstar in Jalen Brunson along with Karl-Anthony Towns, despite the fact that the 76ers caused a stir throughout the offseason with LeBron James and Jaylen Brown debuts.
It’s suggesting the Knicks are a virtual lock to beat the spread in just over 57% of simulations, with sharp players pounding the under on total points in the game due to top-shelf defensive game-planning by the reigning champs and early season chemistry kinks.
In the West, analysts have begun to weigh in on the teams and betting moneyline and lean toward the San Antonio Spurs, who are slight favorites to beat Oklahoma City. The Spurs stayed intact from an extended playoff run last season and added veteran forward Tobias Harris.
Meanwhile, the Thunder will take the court with a slightly thinner rotation because of offseason luxury-tax restrictions, along with a limited preseason for center Chet Holmgren. Experts anticipate young phenom Victor Wembanyama will own the paint and set the pace.
With early-season scoring inconsistencies likely to continue, the two highlighted matchups have the under in heavy betting support, and the first night of the year is turning out to be a compelling chess match for sports bettors.
In addition to standard point spreads and game outcomes, the three games are seeing high betting volume on all player prop markets. Sharp analysts have identified strong prop bets for rebounds for Detroit’s Ausar Thompson as well as several key over-lines for high-profile playmakers such as Jalen Brunson, Cade Cunningham, and Victor Wembanyama.
Even with the volatility of the first month of the new season, emerging star combos, and l title limitations, experts are in agreement. Bettors eyeing a hot start to the new season would be wise to support the previously tested champions in New York and leverage the developing “hot” weather of the Spurs at home.
