Big Zulu gave his fans far more than a concert at Rooted Fest - he handed some of them a moment they will likely never forget.
The Abazazi Bafunani rapper brought multiple fans up on stage to perform alongside him at Rooted Fest, held at Suikerbosrand Nature Reserve on 10 October 2026. The crowd watched on as fan after fan stepped into the spotlight, sharing the stage with one of South Africa's most celebrated hip-hop artists.
Big Zulu's bond with his fans
The scenes at Suikerbosrand were not entirely surprising to those who have followed the star's career closely. Over the years, Big Zulu has earned a reputation that goes beyond his distinct music style. He is widely regarded as an artist who genuinely values the people behind his success, and his actions at the festival reflected that bond in full view of a live audience.
For each fan who stepped on stage, the moment represented something bigger than a quick photo opportunity. It was a reminder that extraordinary things can happen when someone in a position of influence chooses to open a door for others.

Big Zulu's community efforts
This is not the first time the rapper has used his platform to uplift those around him. In December 2025, Briefly News reported on his Big Zulu Soccer Tournament, an initiative rooted in his own community and designed to tackle drug and alcohol abuse among young people. The tournament reflects a longer-term commitment to making a meaningful difference beyond the music.
His impromptu fan performances at Rooted Fest may have lasted only a few minutes each, but for the fans who got on that stage, the memory is certain to last a lifetime.
