A Kansas mom who was behind the wheel when her truck crashed through a youth soccer field, killing two people — including a 6-year-old boy — has been released without charges, cops said.
The unidentified 34-year-old driver smashed into the crowd of people at the Stryker Sports Complex in Wichita on Saturday evening — injuring 10 people and killing Adrian Cole, 6, and Nicholas Schafer, 35, both of McPherson, Kansas.
She has since been released without charges pending the results of toxicology testing and a mechanical examination of the vehicle, the Wichita Police Department announced on Sunday.
“No charges have been filed at this time, and investigators continue working to determine the circumstances that led to the crash,” the police department said.
Her Chevrolet pickup was parked in a parking space near the soccer fields before it sped onto one of the fields with two children inside, investigators said.
One of the driver’s children was playing at the Stryker Sports Complex, but was on a different field from where the deadly crash unfolded.
Cole and Schafer, who were killed in the rampage, were not related, according to cops.
The victims of the crash range in age from 5 to 68, police said.
