Justice Tirhankar Ghosh of Calcutta High Court on Tuesday rejected the bail petition of former fire services minister Sujit Bose, who was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with alleged corruption in recruitments for the North Dum Dum Municipality.
This is the third time the high court has declined to grant bail to Bose in the case.
The central agency had arrested Bose over his alleged involvement in irregularities in the recruitment process of the North Dum Dum Municipality. It is investigating alleged corruption and manipulation in municipal appointments.
Bose’s lawyers sought his release on bail, but the court rejected the plea after hearing the arguments.
The order marks the third occasion on which the high court has refused to grant him bail in this case.
The allegations against Bose are part of a wider investigation into alleged recruitment irregularities in several municipalities in Bengal.
The ED has been examining the suspected flow of funds and the role of various individuals allegedly linked to the recruitment process.
