The volume of industrial production increased by 8.7% year-on-year in August 2026. The working-day adjusted index is equal to the non-adjusted one. The overall increase in industrial production was primarily due to the manufacture of transport equipment, as well as the manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products, while production dropped in the majority of the manufacturing subsections. According to seasonally and working-day adjusted data, industrial output was 1.0% higher than in July 2026.
In August 2026 the volume of industrial production rose by 8.7% compared to the same period of the previous year. (Compared to the August data published in the first estimate, the data in the second estimate did not change.) Industrial output – according to seasonally and working-day adjusted indices – was 1.0% above the previous month’s level.
The volume of industrial export was 15.7% higher than a year earlier. The export sales of the manufacture of transport equipment, representing a 30% weight within export sales in manufacturing, grew by 39%, the exports of the manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products, accounting for a 23% weight, went up by 38%.
Domestic sales of industry rose by 0.6%, those of manufacturing grew by 0.2% compared to the same month of the previous year.
Within industry, production increased by 10.3% in the manufacturing, representing a decisive weight (96%), went up by 93% in mining and quarrying having a small weight, at the same time, it declined by 13.1% in the energy industry (electricity, gas, steam and air-conditioning supply).
Output volume of the manufacture of transport equipment, having the largest weight (24% share) within manufacturing – at the highest rate out of the subsections – exceeded the level of the low base of August 2025 by 43%. Motor vehicles manufacturing went up by 125%, the manufacture of parts and accessories for motor vehicles rose by 3.1%.
The manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products, accounting for 17% within manufacturing output, grew by 30%. Considering the two largest groups, the manufacture of computers and peripheral equipment went up by 58%, at the same time, the manufacture of electronic components and boards dropped by 14.9% compared to the same month of the previous year.
Out of the subsections, the manufacture of electrical equipment, representing an 8.5% weight in manufacturing, fell the most, by 9.8%, year-on-year. Out of the two groups representing the largest weight, production volume in the manufacture of batteries and accumulators dropped by 18.1%, while the manufacture of electric motors, generators, transformers and electricity distribution and control grew by 7.8%.
The manufacture of food products, beverages and tobacco products, having a 14% share in manufacturing, was 6.8% lower than in the same month of the previous year, owing to a decrease in both domestic and export sales. Processing and preserving meat and the production of meat products, representing the largest weight (22%), declined by 4.1% compared to August of the previous year. Production decreased between 3.1% and 25% in eight other groups, too, least of all in the manufacture of beverages, most of all in the manufacture of tobacco products. Output grew only in two groups: in processing and preserving of fish, crustaceans and molluscs, having a very small weight, by 7.6%, in the manufacture of bakery and farinaceous products by 2.7%.
Out of the two subsections representing medium weight, the manufacture of rubber and plastics products and other non-metallic mineral products decreased by 8.0%, while the manufacture of basic metals and fabricated metal products, except machinery and equipment declined by 3.4% compared to the same month of the previous year.
Growth continued in the manufacture of machinery and equipment n.e.c., having a 5.1% share in manufacturing: the output in August was 8.5% higher than in the same month of the previous year, increases were recorded in the great majority of classes.
After a decrease since February 2025, the manufacture of chemicals and chemical products, representing a 4.1% weight in manufacturing, rose slightly, by 0.6% compared to August 2025. The increase mainly resulted from the outstanding performance of manufacture of fertilisers and nitrogen compounds.
Industrial output increased in five regions and dropped in the remaining three, year-on-year. The highest volume growth was observed in the Southern Great Plain (37%), while the most pronounced decline (19.6%) was registered in Pest region.
The volume of total new orders in the observed divisions of manufacturing was 16.0% higher compared to August 2025. New domestic orders increased by 9.5%, new export orders grew by 17.2%. The total stock of orders at the end of August was 41% above the previous year’s level.
In January–August 2026, compared to the same period of the previous year:
Industrial production increased by 3.4%. The volume of export sales, representing 65% of all sales, rose by 4.6%, while domestic sales accounting for 35% of all sales decreased by 1.7%.
Out of the thirteen manufacturing subsections, production declined in six, to the greatest extent, by 23%, in the manufacture of coke, and refined petroleum products. The output in the manufacture of transport equipment, the largest subsection, increased by 8.8%. In the remaining subsections, volumes grew by between 0.9% and 28%, at the highest rate in the manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products.
