A crypto security event called “Don’t Get Played” is now at the center of scam allegations. The irony writes itself.
Apex Accelerator and Stone Venture, the co-hosts of the gathering held during TOKEN2049 in Singapore, reportedly face a police report. The allegation, which surfaced on X, is that organizers pressured attendees to install software that granted remote access to their devices.
What the event promised
On paper, the event looked like exactly what a cautious attendee would want. It was billed as a security-focused session meant to teach people how to protect themselves from token scams.
The venue was The Singapore EDITION, and the gathering took place in early October 2026. Entry was free, but guests had to register in advance. Capacity was capped at 200 people.
The program included a live “wallet clinic.” Attendees could have their holdings checked using Apex Audit tools, which were pitched as scanning for token risk and honeypots.
A honeypot, for the uninitiated, is a token designed so you can buy it but never sell it.
The event’s billing also included a panel on how scams have evolved. Representatives from Spartan Group, Bybit’s security team and the Singapore Police Force Cyber Command were listed among the speakers.
Then came the sweetener. Every confirmed guest was promised a year of complimentary Sophos MDR endpoint protection, with up to $1 million in breach coverage.
That offer, according to the research findings, did a lot of the heavy lifting in drawing interest to the event.
The allegation
The core accusation is short and pointed. Organizers allegedly pushed attendees to install software that would give someone else remote access to their machines.
The source material does not specify which software attendees were allegedly told to install. It also does not say whether any funds were lost or how many people may have been affected.
As of October 12, 2026, no mainstream coverage of a police report concerning the organizers, or of complaints from victims, could be found.
That means the allegations remain just that. Apex Accelerator and Stone Venture have not been charged with anything based on the available information, and their side of the story is not part of the record so far.
Nothing in the available material suggests that Spartan Group, Bybit, Sophos or the Singapore Police Force Cyber Command had any role in the alleged conduct. Their names appeared in the event’s promotion, and that is the extent of what the sources establish.
Why TOKEN2049 side events are a soft target
TOKEN2049 is one of the biggest dates on the crypto calendar. Around it orbits a constellation of side events: parties, panels, workshops and networking dinners run by projects, funds and accelerators.
Warnings circulating around TOKEN2049 had already flagged fake events and ticketing scams as a known problem. The playbook usually involves a convincing landing page, a list of recognizable names and an offer that feels too generous to pass up.
What makes this case stand out is the theme. A scam allegedly dressed as anti-scam education flips the usual guard rails, because people who show up to a security event are primed to follow the organizers’ safety instructions.
What this means for the industry
For attendees, the immediate takeaway is practical. Anyone who installed software at the event may want to review what is running on their devices and consider whether wallets accessed from those machines should be treated as exposed.
The things to watch next are fairly concrete. Will Singapore authorities confirm whether a report was filed? Will Apex Accelerator or Stone Venture respond publicly? And will any of the organizations named in the promotion clarify their involvement?
