Bitcoin has entered the October 19–23 trading week near $82,800 after briefly falling below $80,000, with five scheduled US economic and corporate developments drawing attention ahead of the Federal Reserve’s next interest rate decision.
Summary
- Bitcoin traded near $82,800 on October 19 after falling below $80,000 during the previous week.
- Meta and Tesla earnings on Wednesday could influence technology stocks and investor appetite for crypto risk.
- Wednesday’s US oil inventory report arrives as energy prices continue adding pressure to inflation expectations nationwide.
- Thursday’s jobless claims will offer another reading on employment before the Federal Reserve’s October policy meeting.
- Friday’s PMI and consumer sentiment releases will provide fresh information on business activity and expected inflation.
According to CoinGecko, Bitcoin traded at approximately $82,800 at press time, gaining 1% over the preceding 24 hours while remaining around 1.1% lower over seven days. Its reported weekly trading range extended from $79,806 to $84,231. The cryptocurrency has recovered from its recent low, although prices remain below levels recorded earlier in October.
Attention now turns to corporate earnings, energy prices, employment figures and surveys tracking business conditions and consumer expectations.
The Federal Reserve has entered its official communications blackout period, which began October 17 and continues through October 29. Its next monetary policy meeting is scheduled for October 27–28, leaving investors to assess incoming data without new public policy commentary from participating officials.
Meta and Tesla earnings could influence Bitcoin on Wednesday
Meta Platforms and Tesla are scheduled to report quarterly earnings on Wednesday, October 21, following a difficult week for US technology stocks.
The two companies are among the closely watched businesses reporting results during the current earnings season. IBM is scheduled to publish results the same day, while General Motors and other major companies are due earlier in the week.

For Meta, investors will examine how spending on artificial intelligence infrastructure compares with revenue growth and management’s expectations for future costs.
The company has committed substantial resources to data centers, computing equipment and AI products. Its earnings report will provide updated financial information about those operations.
Tesla’s results will bring attention to vehicle deliveries, profitability and spending on autonomous driving and robotics.
Both companies report during a period of concern about the cost of AI development and the valuations of technology businesses.
The Nasdaq Composite lost approximately 4.5% during the previous week, while semiconductor shares suffered larger declines. The selling followed questions about whether heavy investment in AI infrastructure will produce sufficient returns.
Bitcoin’s price movements do not always follow technology shares. However, a renewed decline in equity markets could coincide with investors reducing their exposure to other volatile assets, including cryptocurrencies.
Positive earnings or stronger guidance could produce a different market response. Neither company’s financial results had been released when this article was prepared.
The scheduled reports are company-specific disclosures, and their effect on Bitcoin cannot be determined in advance.
Oil inventory data arrives Wednesday after hot inflation reports
The US Energy Information Administration is expected to publish its weekly petroleum status report on Wednesday, October 21.
The release provides information about crude oil inventories, refinery activity, gasoline supplies and other petroleum-market developments.
Traders will be watching those figures following a period of elevated energy prices.
Recent US inflation reports showed that energy costs contributed heavily to rising prices. September’s Consumer Price Index increased 0.6% from August, while annual consumer inflation reached 3.7%.
Producer prices rose 1.3% during September and 6.3% from a year earlier, according to Bureau of Labor Statistics data.
The earlier report identified energy as an important contributor to higher wholesale prices, with energy costs climbing 10.8% during the month.
As crypto.news reported after the PPI release, Bitcoin fell toward $81,500 as investors reconsidered the possibility of additional Federal Reserve interest rate increases.
Wednesday’s petroleum report is not itself an inflation report. Its inventory figures could influence crude and gasoline prices, although the direction depends on supply, demand and market expectations.
Oil prices are only one component of inflation, and a weekly inventory change does not establish how the Fed will respond at its October meeting.
Thursday’s jobless claims will test the labor market
Weekly initial unemployment claims are scheduled for Thursday, October 22.
The report measures how many people filed new claims for unemployment benefits during the preceding week, offering one of the more frequent readings on conditions in the US labor market.
Investors will assess the release after inflation data showed that price pressures remained elevated in September.
A higher-than-expected claims figure could indicate that more workers are losing jobs, while a lower reading may suggest employers continue retaining staff.
Either result would need to be considered alongside other employment indicators. Weekly claims can fluctuate, and one release does not establish a lasting change in the labor market.
The report arrives less than a week before Federal Reserve officials begin their October 27–28 meeting.
At their previous meeting in September, policymakers raised the federal funds target range by a quarter percentage point to 3.75%–4%.
The combination of persistent inflation and labor-market developments has complicated expectations for the next policy decision.
Before the latest inflation releases, analysts had warned that Bitcoin remained exposed to further liquidation activity if interest rate expectations changed abruptly.
An October 14 assessment of Bitcoin leverage cited $811 million in cryptocurrency liquidations during an earlier market decline, while open interest remained elevated.
The analyst’s concern was that leveraged positions could amplify subsequent price movements if economic data differed materially from expectations.
Thursday’s claims figures will provide another data point, but no specific Bitcoin price reaction can be established before the release.
Friday’s US PMI reports will show how businesses are performing
S&P Global is scheduled to release its preliminary October manufacturing and services Purchasing Managers’ Index readings on Friday, October 23.
The reports draw on surveys of businesses to assess activity, orders, employment and prices. A PMI reading above 50 generally indicates expansion compared with the previous month, while a reading below 50 indicates contraction.
Investors will examine whether manufacturing and service providers report continued activity despite high borrowing costs and rising prices. The price components will receive particular attention following September’s CPI and PPI releases.
Businesses may report rising input costs even when activity slows, while improving demand can sometimes coincide with higher selling prices. The October flash readings will provide an early estimate of business conditions before the complete monthly surveys become available.
Their results could influence market expectations for economic growth and future Federal Reserve policy, depending on how they compare with forecasts. A reading above or below 50, by itself, does not establish whether Bitcoin will rise or fall.
Consumer sentiment and inflation expectations close the week
The University of Michigan will publish its final October consumer sentiment report on Friday, October 23, at 10 a.m. Eastern Time.
The report will update the preliminary survey, which showed consumer sentiment declining to 46.3 from September’s reading of 48.1. The preliminary results indicated continued concerns about living expenses, borrowing costs and household finances.
Respondents expected inflation to reach 4.7% over the following year, compared with 4.6% in September. Longer-term inflation expectations reached 3.5%, up from 3.4% in the previous month.
Both readings were reported in the university’s preliminary October survey. Its final release will show whether those expectations changed as additional responses were collected.
The figures represent what surveyed consumers expect to happen to prices. They are not actual inflation measurements or official Federal Reserve forecasts. The survey is scheduled for release on the final trading day of the week, following Thursday’s unemployment claims and Friday’s preliminary business activity reports.
According to the university’s published calendar, the final October report will include updated consumer sentiment, current economic conditions, expectations and inflation outlook figures.
