Rich tributes were paid to the police personnel who laid down their lives while performing duties on the occasion of Police Commemoration Day in Kurnool, Nandyal and Anantapur districts on Wednesday.
In Nandyal, ‘Smriti Parade’ (memorial parade) was organised at the Nandyal district police office to honour the police martyrs. District Collector Rajakumari Ganiya, who attended as the chief guest, received a ceremonial salute from the police personnel.
Speaking on the occasion, the Collector paid a heartfelt tribute to the martyrs. She said the police uniform was not just a symbol of authority, but a testament to responsibility, courage, dedication, and sacrifice. Police personnel often stay away from their own families to perform their duties, ensuring that the public can celebrate festivals in peace, she said.
In addition to maintaining law and order, the police also shoulder critical responsibilities such as curbing drug abuse, tackling cybercrime, and protecting vulnerable sections of society, Ms. Rajakumari said.
In Anantapur, Range IG Shemushi and District Superintendent of Police P. Jagadeesh took part in the Commemoration Day event at the District Police headquarters. Ms. Shemushi and Mr. Jagadeesh urged the police force to rededicate themselves to their duties, drawing inspiration from the ideals of those who sacrificed their lives for the safety and protection of society.
Ms. Shemushi said the role of the police was pivotal in ensuring the nation’s internal security. “It is a position of great responsibility. The police work round-the-clock to maintain law and order and ensure peace in society,” she said.
Meanwhile, in Kurnool, tributes were paid at the Police Martyrs’ Memorial by Superintendent of Police (SP) Vikrant Patil. He paid tributes to the 154 police personnel who sacrificed their lives while safeguarding law and order between September 1, 2025, and August 31, 2026.
