Hanmi Science (008930.KS) is teaming up with the Korean Red Cross to promote blood donation, building on a life-sharing campaign the company has run for 46 years.
Hanmi Science said on the 15th that it signed an agreement with the Korean Red Cross on the 14th at the Seoul Red Cross Hospital donation center to help secure a stable blood supply and encourage donation. Kim Jae-kyo, chief executive of Hanmi Science, and Kwon So-young, head of the Korean Red Cross Blood Services Headquarters, attended the signing along with other officials from both organizations.
Under the agreement, Hanmi Science will continue running blood drives for its employees and work closely with the Korean Red Cross to support a stable blood supply and build a more established donation culture.
The company's "Blood Donation of Love" campaign dates to November 1980, when Lim Sung-ki, the late founder of Hanmi Pharmaceutical, backed the opening of a donation center at Seoul City Hall Station. A cumulative 12,340 employees have taken part since then, giving a total of 3.95 million cubic centimeters of blood, and the company has donated 6,546 blood donation certificates.
Hanmi Science has received a commendation from the Korean Red Cross for the effort, and Hanmi Pharmaceutical won a minister's award for social contribution from the Ministry of Health and Welfare last year.
To support donors' health, Hanmi Science will donate about 250,000 packs of its flagship health drinks — Hanmi Care Me high-protein nutritional drink, Hanmi Protein Master and its whole-ground soy milk banana beverage — to 42 donation centers in Seoul over one year, or 21,120 packs a month.
"It is deeply meaningful that the life-sharing values of our 46-year 'Blood Donation of Love' campaign are now expanding into support for donors' health," Kim said. "Building on this agreement with the Korean Red Cross, we will keep working to encourage our employees to donate regularly in their daily lives and to help spread a healthy donation culture."
Kwon said the agreement carries weight because Hanmi has long worked alongside the Red Cross to promote donation. "We are grateful for Hanmi Science's support for donors' health, and we hope this agreement will further spread regular blood donation and a culture of sharing life," Kwon said.
